Oetz ligger i en udvidelse på første trin af Ötztal. Byen, en landsby, har et særligt mildt klima på grund af sin beliggenhed ved foden af den 3007 m høje Acherkogel, hvilket er grunden til, at den ligesom distriktsbyen Imst nogle gange kaldes "Meran Nordtyrol". Vest for hovedbyen flyder Ötztal Ache.
