Darmstadt () er en befriet storby med 159.631 indbyggere i den sydlige del af Hessen, administrationssæde for regeringsområdet Darmstadt og Landkreis Darmstadt-Dieburg. Byen tilhører Rhein-Main-området og er et af de ti hovedcentre i delstaten Hessen. Darmstadt er efter Frankfurt am Main, Wiesbaden og Kassel den fjerdestørste by i landet. Siden den 13. august 1997 bærer den den officielle tillægstitle Wissenschaftsstadt, som den har profileret sig med siden efterkrigstiden.
