Den 8. februar 1988 styrtede en Fairchild Swearingen Metro på Nürnberger Flugdienst flyvning 108 fra Hannover til Düsseldorf. Flyet styrtede ned lige før landing.
Flyet med flynummeret NFD108 lettede kl. 07.15 med 15 minutters forsinkelse fra Hannover-Langenhagen lufthavn. Før forberedelserne til landing diskuterede piloterne, om de skulle flyve uden om et tordenværksområde nær Düsseldorf, men de besluttede at flyve gennem tordenværet. Kl. 07:50 fik fly 108 tilladelse til ILS-anflyvning til landingsbane 24. Cirka kl. 07.56 forsvandt fly 108 fra radar, og vidner på jorden så et ubelyst fly mellem skyerne. To minutter senere ramte vraget af Metro III nordvest for Essen-Kettwig nær Rhinen jorden. Alle ombord omkom ved sammenstødet.
