Det lille naturreservat ligger i kanten af øvelsesområdet Senne og har typiske kendetegn for Sennelandskabet: På den næringsfattige sandbund vokser sandmagerrasen og lyng, mens birketræer og fyrretræer dominerer. Det flade hedelandskab har en høj artsdiversitet. I den nordlige del blev sandet tidligere udvundet ned til den underliggende mergellag. I graven samler vand sig nogle steder og fremmer væksten af fugt- og lerbunden-elskende arter.
