Navnet på denne kommune ser ud til at stamme fra det latinske "Asparragus" på grund af den store mængde asparges, der kunne findes der. I den muslimske periode blev det til Ašbaragirra, som senere blev "Sparagaria", derefter "Esparagera", indtil vi nåede det nuværende navn: "Esparreguera"
