Richard de Clare, 6. jarl af Gloucester, døde på John de Criols herregård i Asbenfield i Temple Waltham den 14. juli 1262 i en alder af 39 år; der blev rygter om, at han var blevet forgiftet ved bordet hos Piers af Savoy.
Under og før Edward III's regeringstid var sognet Waltham en del af hundrede Bridge. Efter sammenlægningen af nogle hundreder, var størstedelen af sognet ved slutningen af det 19. århundrede en del af hundrede Bridge og Petham. Af de to konstabler for det konsoliderede hundrede var den nuværende monark herre over det årlige court leet, der valgte en konstabel for hundrede Bridge.
