Byen Langeaar domineres af den Romersk-Katolske St. Adrianuskirke (1902). Langeraar lå engang der, hvor Ter Aar nu ligger, men det blev i januar 1788 fejet væk efter en dæmningsnedbrud ved Braassemermeer. Byen blev genopbygget på den nuværende plads. Senere blev der igen bygget en by på stedet for det gamle Langeraar, som fik navnet Ter Aar.
