Es ist das zweitälteste nationale Naturschutzgebiet in der Wallonischen Region (nach den Hohen Venn). Dieser Status wurde 1969 verliehen, um den Erhalt einer erstaunlichen Landschaft aus Weiden-Birkenwald auf Torfboden zu gewährleisten. Es gibt auch eine typische boreale Fauna und Flora.
Der Standort liegt in etwa 550 m Höhe und ist Teil des Freyr-Walplateaus, ein paar Kilometer nordöstlich der Stadt Saint-Hubert.
