Houffalize ist das Zentrum der Oberen Ourthe. Es ist ein kleines Städtchen, das sich in den Twist eines Ourthemeanders geschmiegt hat. Auch hier hat die Ardennenoffensive Anfang 1945 ihr verheerendes Werk verrichtet. Zeugnis davon ist ein deutscher Panther-Panzer, der nach der Offensive aus dem Fluss gegraben wurde und nun auf einem Platz zum Stehen gekommen ist. Der 1942 für die Ostfront gebaute Panzer wiegt 43 Tonnen, verfügt über eine 110-mm-Panzerung, eine 75-mm-Kanone und zwei 7,92-mm-Maschinengewehre. In der damaligen Offensive übertraf der Panther alle amerikanischen und britischen Panzer.
