Zürich , volkstümlich auch Zürichbiet oder mundartlich Züripiet genannt, ist ein deutschsprachiger Kanton im Nordosten der Schweiz. Der Hauptort ist die gleichnamige Stadt Zürich.
Der Mittellandkanton Zürich, der flächenmässig im oberen Mittelfeld der Kantonsrangliste angesiedelt ist, weist eine ausserordentlich hohe Bevölkerungsdichte auf und rangiert mit seinen 1,5 Millionen Einwohnern auf dem ersten Platz der bevölkerungsreichsten Kantone. Geprägt wird der Kanton von seiner Hauptstadt Zürich und deren Agglomeration, die den grössten Teil des Kantonsgebietes einnimmt.
