Nikosia ist eine geteilte Stadt im Zentrum der Mittelmeerinsel Zypern und Hauptort des gleichnamigen Bezirkes. Nikosia ist die Hauptstadt der Republik Zypern, der Nordteil zudem De-facto-Hauptstadt der international nicht anerkannten Türkischen Republik Nordzypern.Nikosia ist seit dem 7. Jahrhundert v. Chr. nachgewiesen. Das Prisma des Asarhaddon von 673/672 v. Chr. erwähnt einen König Unasagusu von Lidîr. Der antike Name war Ledra.
