Der bayerische König Maximilian II., Ludwigs Vater, kaufte das ursprüngliche Jagdhaus in der Mitte des neunzehnten Jahrhunderts. In den Gärten stehen allerlei kitschige Gebäude, wie der Schwanensee, die Venusgrotte und das marokkanische Haus, in dem der scheue König sich ganz und gar - in seiner zweifellos reichen Fantasiewelt - ausleben konnte.
