Bad Tölz ist die Kreisstadt des oberbayerischen Landkreises Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen. Die Kurstadt liegt an der Isar rund 50 Kilometer südlich von München und zählt gut 19.000 Einwohner. Sie stellt das wirtschaftliche und kulturelle Zentrum des Altlandkreises Bad Tölz dar und ist für ihre Altstadt, die Nähe zu den Bergen und die Tölzer Leonhardifahrt bekannt.
Der Ort liegt im mittleren Isartal, am nördlichen Eingang zum Isarwinkel, von wo man auf die bayerischen und Nordtiroler Kalkalpen blickt. Die Kreis- und Kurstadt liegt auf ca. 650 bis 700 m ü. NHN und ist somit eine der höchstgelegenen Kreisstädte Deutschlands. Die Landeshauptstadt München im Norden ist rund 50 Kilometer entfernt, Garmisch-Partenkirchen im Südwesten erreicht man nach 56 Kilometern. Die ehemalige Kreisstadt Wolfratshausen und Geretsried als weitere Zentren im Norden des Landkreises Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen sind 25 bzw. 20 Kilometer entfernt.
