Mügeln ist eine Kleinstadt in Sachsen, im Südosten des Landkreises Nordsachsen. Nachbarstädte sind Oschatz und Döbeln . Bekanntheit erlangte der Ort als ehemaliger Bischofssitz des Bistums Meißen und im 19. Jahrhundert durch die Schmalspurbahn, deren Bahnhof in Mügeln einst als einer der größten Schmalspurbahnhöfe Europas galt.
Mügeln liegt im Döllnitztal am westlichen Rand der Lommatzscher Pflege, einem intensiv landwirtschaftlich genutzten Hügelland mit fruchtbaren Böden. Durch die Stadt fließt der kleine Fluss Döllnitz. Nördlich der Stadt beginnt der Wermsdorfer Forst, ein Waldgebiet, das sich bis zur Dahlener Heide erstreckt.
