Bad Honnef ist eine Stadt im Rhein-Sieg-Kreis am Südrand des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen mit 25.738 Einwohnern . Sie liegt auf der östlichen Seite des Rheins und grenzt über diesen nordwestlich an den Stadtbezirk Bad Godesberg der Bundesstadt Bonn und zudem an das Land Rheinland-Pfalz. Bad Honnef nimmt gemäß Landesplanung die Funktion eines Mittelzentrums ein. Nach Definition des Bundesamtes für Bauwesen und Raumordnung handelt es sich bei Bad Honnef um eine „Kleine Mittelstadt“. Bad Honnef ist dem Regierungsbezirk Köln zugeordnet.
