Die Kirche San Buenaventura gehört zum gleichnamigen Franziskanerkloster , das im 17. Jahrhundert gegründet wurde.
Ursprünglich diente es als Studienzentrum für das Kloster Casa Grande de San Francisco , das sich auf der nahegelegenen Plaza Nueva befand. Anschließend wurde es mehrfach renoviert, bis es enteignet wurde. Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts kehrten die Franziskanermönche zurück.
Das Äußere der Kirche ist schlicht, das keramische Altarbild der Virgen de la Soledad hingegen nicht. Aufgrund seines Reliefs ist es heute wahrscheinlich das auffälligste in Sevilla.
Das Innere des Gebäudes hat einen rechteckigen Grundriss mit zwei Schiffen, da es in der Vergangenheit in Richtung Calle Bilbao erweitert wurde. Das Gewölbe des Querschiffs ist halb orange und mit Fresken von Franziskanerheiligen von Francisco de Herrera el Viejo geschmückt. In einem weiteren Gewölbe sind auch die acht Oberärzte des Franziskanerordens abgebildet.
