Als Gebirgspass oder kurz Pass bezeichnet man aus Sicht des Talbewohners den Übergang in das jenseits des Gebirges liegende Tal – woher auch die Bezeichnung „Pass“ (Passage) herrührt. Dazu geeignet ist die tiefstmögliche gangbare Stelle eines Bergkamms, Höhenrückens oder Gratverlaufs zwischen zwei Bergketten.
