Viktor Emanuel II. (Vittorio Emanuele Maria Alberto Eugenio Ferdinando Tommaso; 14. März 1820 - 9. Januar 1878) war ab 1849 König von Sardinien und wurde am 17. März 1861 zum König von Italien, dem ersten König des vereinten Italiens, gekrönt , ein Titel, den er bis zu seinem Tod im Jahr 1878 innehatte. Die Italiener nannten ihn Vater des Vaterlandes (italienisch: „Padre della Patria“).
Er strebte ein geeintes Italien an, aber Österreich, das in Norditalien eine führende Rolle spielte, lehnte dies ab. Doch es gelang ihm mit Hilfe der Franzosen.
