Dies ist der Stadtturm aus dem 14. Jahrhundert , der Teil des Übertragungssystems ist. Es wurde von der Universitas Palermitana zur Verteidigung der Mauern des „Cassaro“ erbaut und war nicht Teil der Kirchenstrukturen, sondern abgetrennt und isoliert.
Der Turm der Exzellenz, vielleicht der höchste in Palermo , hat aufgrund der Stadterweiterung seine defensive Bedeutung verloren. Dann wurde es verfeinert und verlor sein strenges Aussehen. Tatsächlich wurden auf der zweiten Ebene Buntglasfenster mit Intarsienarbeiten verwendet.
Seit 2013 ist der San Nicolò-Turm mit von der Genossenschaft Terradamare organisierten Führungen für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich .
