Direkt am Geul liegt die Burg Den Halder. Es handelt sich um einen verstärkten Wohnturm, der damals an der mittelalterlichen Stadtmauer lag. Der Ursprung des Turms reicht daher ins vierzehnte Jahrhundert zurück, als Dirk IV. von Valkenburg mit dem Wiederaufbau der Stadtmauer begann.
Später wurde er in einen Wohnturm umgebaut, was bedeutete, dass ein weiteres Geschoss hinzugefügt wurde und Ecktürme errichtet wurden. Ein Teil des ursprünglichen Anwesen ist jetzt als Stadtpark eingerichtet.
