Viele Menschen kennen die Windraak von dem Weg, der hindurchführt. Wenige wissen, dass hier hinten ein ländliches Naturschutzgebiet versteckt liegt, am Rand von Südlimburg zwischen dem Plateau von Doenrade und dem Tal der Geleenbeek.
Es ist ein kleines Wanderparadies mit außergewöhnlich vielen Routen, auch für Mountainbiker. Bekannte Wanderwege sind der Pieterpad und der Pelgrimspad. Man wandert durch Wälder, schmale Wege und entlang von Froschteichen und Wiesen mit Feldkreuzen, wo Dachse und Kornwölfe vorkommen.
