Wahrscheinlich stammt der Name "Onze Lieve Vrouw van de Elzentak" von dem Erlenbaum, unter dem die Kapelle steht.
Diese Kapelle wurde im Mai 1935 von Pastor Verbunt eingeweiht.
Die Initiative zur Gründung dieser Kapelle kam von der Katholischen Jugendvereinigung. Die Nachbarschaft brachte die finanziellen Mittel zusammen.
Die Steine für den Bau der Kapelle wurden per Straßenbahn aus Belgien zum ehemaligen Straßenbahnhof am Kruispad gebracht. Von dort wurden sie nach Tiggelt transportiert.
Das Grundstück wurde von der Witwe Roovers zur Verfügung gestellt. Die ursprüngliche Statue wurde durch die Statue ersetzt, die jetzt dort steht. Diese Statue wurde von Frau C. Maas-Roovers gespendet.
