The Sint-Andries Hospital is a medium-sized loco-regional hospital, located on the edge (along the Ringlaan) of the center of Tielt in the province of West Flanders. The Tielt district has approximately 88,192 inhabitants.
The care area or hinterland extends over 10 municipalities. This allows the hospital to serve a population of around 105,000 inhabitants, as many patients are also admitted from East Flanders, e.g. 20 to 25% from Aalter (according to the latest available figures from the Ministry of Health).
The hospital is located in a rural area with the lowest hospital infrastructure (no oversupply) in the whole province of West Flanders, the lowest specialist consumption, and active primary healthcare.
