Veldegem is a village in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The village has been a part of Zedelgem since 1977. Veldegem is a relatively young village that only began to develop in the 19th century. Now more than 5,500 people live there. Veldegem emerged centuries later than the surrounding villages as 'the field of Zedelgem'. The area was previously a forest and old maps mention land dunes, swamps, and ponds. It is believed that this barren land was therefore called "'t Veld". There has been settlement in the vicinity of the later station for centuries: the oldest mention of the Lepemolen, also called Veldmolen or Rommelsmolen, dates back to 1645. It was blown up in 1918. Along the Torhoutsesteenweg, near the border with Torhout, there was also the Kronemolen.
