Historically, the province of Flemish Brabant was divided into East, Central, and West Brabant. Central was the region of grapes and endives. Central Brabant is the Dutch-speaking area or rather ‘the smart rectangle’ between Brussels-Capital to the west, the border with the province of Antwerp and the city of Mechelen to the north, the city of Leuven to the east, and the language border or the border with Walloon Brabant or Wallonia to the south.
There is also a magazine ‘Midden-Brabant’. On the cover, the municipalities are listed again: Hoeilaart, Overijse, Tervuren, Huldenberg, Oud-Heverlee, Kraainem, Wezembeek-Oppem, Bertem, Zaventem, Kortenberg, Herent, Machelen, the district of Peutie, Steenokkerzeel, Kampenhout, Zemst, Boortmeerbeek, Haacht, and Keerbergen.
Kortenberg has always positioned itself as the center of Central Brabant.
