Description of our experience
September 3rd, the day has come to participate in this event. We leave from home to the Clubhouse of Vespa Club Tessenderlo, Black & White, where we had registered as the starting point. We arrive too early because we wanted to be among the first members and noticed that the organization could still use a helping hand to set everything up before the first participants arrive at 7 AM. So, sleeves rolled up and helped where needed.
Once registered, we enjoyed breakfast peacefully with a beautiful sunrise while observing many Vespas and various clubs arriving. At that moment, we knew this day would be a major highlight for all participants. The atmosphere was great and the weather forecast looked good.
The time had come to start, and we gathered for a short briefing from the board. After the applause, we got ready and left in small groups at our own pace. After all, it's a day to enjoy, not to be the first one back.
We drove the route via the received GPX file to the first checkpoint of Vespa Club Antwerp. We cruised along the small roads and beautiful landscapes to be welcomed by the Club and its present members and participants of the 1st round of Belgium. Here, one could voluntarily participate in a competition to cover a course with obstacles in the shortest time possible. If you had never done this before, it was a daring attempt.
For those who did not dare to take on the challenge, the Abarth museum was offered for free to visit. Here, numerous classic cars from different categories could be seen. Spread throughout the museum and the various halls, it was worth taking a look at everything and going back in history. After the visit, we were treated to coffee and pastries. After the pleasant tour, breaks, and first wonderful exchanges, we continued our ride towards checkpoint 2 - Classic Vespa Club Geraardsbergen.
The route was perfect and challenging, and the atmosphere was clearly visible on everyone's faces with big smiles. Along the way, we laughed a lot, saw many sights, and enjoyed ourselves immensely. Upon arrival, we gathered with other club members who were already there. Again, pure indulgence with coffee, soft drinks, and delicious coffee cakes. In other words, you couldn't go hungry during the ride! The location was great, and the buildings radiated something special. Be sure to check out the added photos taken during the ride.
Okay, stomach refilled and time to refuel the Vespas after the 140 km we had covered; our classics were already thirsty. We left Geraardsbergen and stopped at the next gas station. With a full tank, we drove towards checkpoint 3 - Vespa Club Charleroi. At the checkpoint, we were again treated to a hearty meal so that we could definitely head towards the Start/Stop place with full stomachs.
The course continues to amaze us, and the cool thing about this concept is that we encountered 50% of the Vespas coming in the opposite direction, which definitely affected us as Vespa enthusiasts. It brought something extra that was very positive in terms of rider feelings. Evening was approaching, but with the same smiles on our faces, we rode on cheerfully. Of course, we also incorporated smaller stops between the checkpoints for drinks and to stretch our legs. Again, we decided to stop at the Sint Gillesplein in Kumtich for something refreshing to drink. The cafés we had seen before were already overflowing with enjoying participants who remained thirsty.
As evening was near and dark clouds appeared, we decided to continue. It was pure enjoyment for each of us.
Upon our arrival in Tessenderlo, we were welcomed by a crowd of Vespa enthusiasts, and there were fries with meat ready to conclude the day well.
It was indeed a top day for us, proud of the club for organizing this with three other clubs. The organization was great, and the food was tasty and more than enough! Proud as riders that we participated accident-free and relaxed but especially enjoyed the long day.
Hopefully, we will see each other again at the 2nd Round of Belgium on 23/09/2023!
