Start at the St. Peter's Church in Stuivekenskerke .
We pass the Kasteelhoeve Viconia, also known as Vicogne , a former Norbertine monastery farm and now a banquet hall. We continue past the Viconia clay pits , which we'll visit later , to the Yser River. A narrow-gauge railway reminds us of the activities of the former clay pits.
We follow the Yser River to the replicas of the petroleum tanks and then retrace our steps to take the Oud Stuivekenspad . This takes us to Oud Stuivekenskerke, also known as Onze-Lieve-Vrouwehoekje ( Our Lady's Corner).
Many sights here refer to the past of the First World War: the ruins of the tower of the old St. Peter's Church, the old bunker and the memorial sites with the Chapel of Our Lady of Victory, which was later erected here in gratitude (for a miracle? ).
An information board reminds us a little further on about the archaeological site.
Finally, we arrive at the Viconiakleiputten nature reserve, a particular highlight for bird lovers : a bird hide and observation tower are at their disposal.
Don't forget to check out the tourist information once you're there . They explain the rich history here...
