Strolling between churches and chapels in Knokke-Heist

This bike tour is an earlier realization (1999) of the parish St. Antonius from Heist-aan-Zee, Sint-Jozefsstraat 3, 8301 Knokke-Heist. According to van Dale, 'laveren' means to sail alternately over one board side and the other in order to sail against the wind. Perhaps the religious element of this proposed outing also evokes some headwind for some people nowadays? Nevertheless, we warmly invite you to embark on a journey of discovery with us, whether by bike, car, or tourist train (+ guide) to many treasures in our beautiful coastal municipality and its surrounding hinterland. On the occasion of the anniversary year 2000, inspired by various search journeys and the television program 'Tours between Towers', we wish to proudly seek out precious and valuable testimonies of our faithful past together with you, with a still relevant (folk) devotion. The route description begins at the St. Antonius Church in Heist-aan-Zee, but you can start your outing wherever you like! The suggested tour forms a closed loop from start to finish. The total distance is about thirty kilometers. Along the way, you will find plenty of opportunities to stop briefly and relax with a waffle, pancake, and/or drink. The numbers on the map correspond to those of the described buildings. Constraints regarding historical and other data were necessary. Hopefully, after this fleeting sailing through Knokke-Heist, you would like to become more acquainted with the art and valuable interiors of our six parish churches, and this personal visit will not only bring you admiration from a distance, but also moments of soothing silence and reflection.
