The North Cemetery Minden is an 18 ha large listed cemetery complex in the East Westphalian city of Minden. It is located in the northwest of the city on the high bank on the left bank of the Weser River and has been operated since 1904 following the Old Cemetery Minden.
The cemetery was planned from 1899 by a resolution of the council of the city of Minden. City garden inspector Isermann planned the complex and implemented the plan. The chapel was designed by the city architect of Minden, August Kersten.
After almost a hundred years of occupancy, the old cemetery, known in Minden as the "Old Cemetery" or "Botanical Garden," was replaced in 1904 by the "New Cemetery" – now called the "North Cemetery."
A war burial site was established in the North Cemetery between 1945 and 1946 for the dead of World War II. Here, the foreign victims of war and violence lie in a burial field. The memorial plaque lists 128 individuals from different nations. In total, 566 victims of both World Wars – 264 civilians and 302 soldiers – are buried here. There is also a large cross that was initially intended for the Schlageter monument on the Jakobsberg, but was dismantled there after a short time. In September 2007, the Field of Remembrance was inaugurated in the North Cemetery, where impoverished and single individuals from Minden and the region of the Minden church district can be buried.
