Three castles - Burg Blankenheim, the Wildenburg and the castle town of Reifferscheid -
as well as the old Tiergartentunnel water supply tunnel and inspiring Eifel landscape, are the elixir of the Burgenroute, or castle route.
The starting point of the tour is Hellenthal at the foot of the Olef dam, with a game enclosure and bird of prey centre.
The tour ends in historic Blankenheim with its castle, the Tiergartentunnel and the source of the river Ahr.
Together with the Eifelsteig and the Rur-Olef route, the tour can be extended into an exciting, multiple day route via Olef and Nettersheim.
