In the early 1990s, Christian Valleriaux, bookseller in Paris decided to move to Charity-sur-Loire. He creates in 1996 a book fair. The idea was to make Charite-sur-Loire, a city of books. The city got there: a dozen booksellers have moved into historic downtown and took over deserted shops. Some book artists, printers, illuminators, calligraphers, binders and publishers settled here. During the year, several events related to books and book fairs are organized here.
