The Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art "Giuseppe Sciortino", located in the former Benedictine monastery in Piazza Guglielmo II in Monreale, houses more than two hundred works by artists of the Italian twentieth century.
The works on display are the result of donations (which took place on three separate occasions, in 1986, 1997 and 2002) by Eleonora Nora Posabella, owner of the "Al Vantaggio" gallery in Rome , to pay tribute to the memory of her life partner , a man of culture and a citizen of Monreale.
Among the exquisite works on display are masterpieces created by leading masters of the national scene such as Domenico Purificato, Renato Guttuso, Carlo Levi, Giorgio De Chirico, Filippo De Pisis, Fausto Pirandello, Mario Sironi, Giorgio Morandi and Luigi Bartolini.
