The watermill has been part of the Singraven Estate since 1448. The mill consists of an oil mill (no longer in operation and partially demolished), a grain mill, and a sawmill. The grain mill and the sawmill are still in operation and can be visited. You can participate in a guided tour or have your own wood cut to size in the mill. The mill is operated by volunteer millers from the Molenstichting Lattrop Tiligte Foundation.
The Singraven watermill is the last water-powered undershot sawmill in the Netherlands. The water supply comes from the small river Dinkel, which originates in the town of Holtwyck in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Today, the water level of the Dinkel is controlled from Almelo by the water authority Vechtstroom. The estate holds the so-called weir rights, a right that dates back to the Middle Ages.
The mill has 3 waterwheels, each with a diameter of 5.5 meters. The left wheel opposite the restaurant comes from the former oil mill. The oil mill was demolished in the early 20th century, making the wheel the only remaining part. The middle wheel comes from the grain mill, and the right wheel comes from the sawmill.
