The House of Detention (1890) is a creation of W.C. Metzelaar, who worked for the Ministry of Justice and established prisons throughout the Netherlands, such as the dome prison in Haarlem. The prison was operational until 1978, after which the Baghwan movement resided there and in 2016, asylum seekers were still held there. Now, the British School is located here.
