The Iwema-Steenhuis (circa 1400) is the only remaining stone house in the province of Groningen. A stone house is an early form of a castle or fortress, primarily found in the province of Groningen. In the barn of the Iwema Steenhuis, there is a museum. Behind the stone house lies the garden, which was restored in the early 2000s and has been open to the public since 2001. Here you will find the largest beech tree in Groningen. As you walk through the open grassland of the southern Westerkwartier with its characteristic alder avenues, you will pass by the 'Slangenbosje.' A damp piece of forest where you won't find snakes anymore, but rather many deer. A hiking trail along sandy paths, old trees, and restored drinking troughs.
