March of Freedom Gemert - Eindhoven

This route from Gemert to Eindhoven has been established by Amnesty Brabant to commemorate the liberation of North Brabant (September 18-25, 1944). The route passes several liberation and memorial monuments in Gemert, Aarle-Rixtel, Nuenen, and Eindhoven.

The walk begins in Gemert at the Indian monument on Pater vd Elsenstraat. Also in Gemert is the war monument by the castle. The castle was also briefly a center of the hostilities; listen to the amusing story of Ad Otten.

After a walk through the Galgenvelden, where "justice" was once served, we cross the Snel Loop, where in 1995 a centuries-old conflict was concluded with the peace of the Snel Loop. We walk through the Biezen to the war monument on Bakelsedijk in Aarle-Rixtel. At Dorpsstraat 1 in Aarle-Rixtel is the monument "War and Peace."

Via Croy and the Stiphout forests, we arrive in Nuenen. Anyone wishing to visit the war monument in Stiphout will need to take a small detour to Wevestraat, where the monument is located along with a memorial stone in honor of resistance hero Maurits Hertzberger.

As we pass through Nuenen, we come to the monument of the 101st Airborne Division at the intersection of Parkstraat and Europalaan. Here is also the monument "Resurrection is Liberation".

Through the Eckhart walking park and alongside the Karpendonkse Plas, we walk to the 18 September square in the center of Eindhoven. Then it is just a short distance to the Liberation Monument at the Stadhuisplein, where the end of the route is located.

Every year on September 19, the liberation festival "Liberation040" takes place at the Stadhuisplein and the 18 September square.

On that day, Amnesty is present together with other organizations with information about the protection of human rights.
