El corno es un instrumento antiguo que se utilizaba principalmente para transmitir señales, especialmente para la caza. Un corno tradicional puede ser usado para tocar diferentes tonalidades, pero los cornós no son adecuados para hacer música de verdad. Las versiones más modernas del corno, como el corno francés o el corno vienés, son mucho más sofisticadas. Esto permite tocar todas las notas del pentagrama con la ayuda de válvulas. La apertura de la temporada de caza en San Huberto, siempre el primer fin de semana de septiembre, es tradicionalmente honrada por muchos cornistas de aquí y de allá.
