En la Coudenberg se encontraba alguna vez el Palacio Coudenberg, uno de los edificios más prestigiosos de Europa. Aquí se reunía la Orden del Toisón de Oro. Felipe el Bueno inició la construcción de un imponente palacio en el siglo XV. Desde aquí administraría todo el reino de los Países Bajos. Albrecht Dürer declaró que nunca había visto una tal grandeza y riqueza. En febrero de 1731, tras un incendio, las ruinas del palacio fueron demolidas más de 40 años después. Ahora es el sitio arqueológico más importante de Bruselas. En el lugar donde antes estaba la capilla, ahora se encuentra el "museo BELvue", un museo sobre la historia de Bélgica.
