La iglesia de Saint-Ursmer de Lobbes puede considerarse como la iglesia más antigua de Valonia.
La nave y al menos los dos transeptos pertenecen, de hecho, a la época carolingia.
Desde finales del siglo XI -o, según un estudio reciente, desde finales del siglo X, período durante el cual se instaló un capítulo de canónigos- la iglesia fue modificada, en particular por la ampliación del coro y por la remodelación de la vasta cripta semi-subterránea que aún se conserva.
