La Normandwijk, a principios de la década de 1930 (ver foto), era una nueva urbanización claramente orientada al turismo, promovida entre otros por el entonces arquitecto de renombre Vereecke, que debía ser una extensión del barrio del dique marítimo. Se tomó el estilo de construcción normando como ejemplo para construir un barrio de villas independientes en áreas verdes. En realidad, es una aplicación posterior de la idea de ciudad-jardín que ya se había implementado previamente en Westende-Bad. En aquel entonces, también fue una clara respuesta al carácter más urbanizado de los edificios en el Dique Marítimo.
