El interior y el exterior están conectados aquí por el Gran Leigracht. Los cuencos pueden ser separados entre sí por esta puerta de compuerta. Al levantarla, solo se llena el cuenco interior. Si es necesario, la compuerta se controla y se baja, para que el cuenco exterior también se pueda llenar junto a los muros de Diest.
Para dejar vaciar el cuenco interior, se debe restablecer la conexión y se baja la compuerta. El agua fluye ahora a través del Gran Leigracht y el sifón del que hablaremos más tarde, bajo el Demer y se descarga en el Zwarte Beek. Para recordarte: no entra ni una gota de agua del Demer en el cuenco de espera. Solo el agua de importantes afluentes, como el Begijnenbeek, se recoge en el cuenco.
Aquí se ha previsto recientemente (2023) una torre de observación.
