En 1525 se construye la Vieja Casa de Justicia para la administración del Oficio de Maldegem. Las tareas aumentan y en 1653 la Casa de Justicia recibe refuerzos de la Vieja Casa del Ayuntamiento. A lo largo de los siglos, los edificios cumplen diferentes funciones: casa de justicia con sala de consejo, posada, café, ayuntamiento, academia de arte, biblioteca, … El encuentro siempre es el hilo conductor. Ambos edificios son monumentos protegidos.
