El pueblo de Boblas se encuentra a unos 4 km al sur de la ciudad de Naumburg, al borde de la zona de colinas de löss alrededor de Zeitz y Naumburg, un ramal de la cuenca de baja de Leipzig. El término municipal de Boblas forma parte del Geoparque Natural Saale-Unstrut-Triasland.
La fundación y el origen del lugar de Boblas no son conocidos. La forma del nombre Bobeluz o también Poblitz sugiere una fundación de asentamiento eslava. El nombre del lugar se deriva de Bob y Luce. Esta interpretación se justifica porque el arroyo Kugelbach solía formar praderas pantanosas en los alrededores del pueblo, que más tarde desaparecieron con el drenaje y la deforestación.
