Las menciones documentales más antiguas[3] de esta localidad datan del siglo XI, cuando el Rey de Nájera Sancho III el Mayor concede el señorío del lugar de Ventosa al Monasterio de San Millán en el año 1020.Asimismo, diferentes donaciones reales del siglo XI aluden a Troseca, un desaparecido barrio de Ventosa que estaría situado entre las villas de Santa Coloma, Ventosa y Manjarrés. Troseca fue donado por el rey García III el de Nájera en 1046 a su esposa Estefanía, y el mismo año de la muerte del monarca , la reina viuda lo incorporó al monasterio de Santa María la Real de Nájera.
