Nacido el 15 de septiembre de 1851 en Celanova (Ourense), Manuel Curros Enríquez pasa por ser, junto con Rosalía de Castro y Eduardo Pondal, el gran referente del denominado "Rexurdimento" de la literatura gallega de finales del siglo XIX.
De pensamiento liberal y anticlerical, trabajó durante toda su vida como periodista, profesión en la que obtuvo un gran prestigio merced al dominio de los recursos del género y la solidez conceptual de sus artículos.
