Esta ruta discurre en la provincia de Jaén por parte del antiguo trazado del tren que daba salida por el puerto de Málaga a los productos de esta provincia y de Córdoba, en especial aceite de oliva, razón por la cual este ferrocarril era conocido popularmente como “Tren del Aceite”.
