Fue construido a partir de 1878 por el Estado en terrenos que él mismo había comprado al municipio y a particulares. Se terminó en 1890. Contiene los huesos de unos 3.000 soldados franceses y alemanes. Según un acuerdo del 1 de marzo de 1951 entre el Ministerio de Asuntos de los Veteranos (Oficina de Tumbas) y el Comité, este último se hace cargo de los (costosos) gastos de mantenimiento. La terraza tuvo que ser completamente rehecha en 1999 y se puede visitar preguntando al cuidador de la casa.
