El edificio perteneció al principio al empresario de carruajes Auguste Wirtgen. Tras su muerte, el edificio pasó a ser propiedad del municipio en 1889, sirviendo como ayuntamiento hasta 1959. Además de la administración y la Galería de Arte Municipal de Diekirch, hoy alberga entre otras cosas clases de la rama de Diekirch de la escuela de música Conservatoire de Musique du Nord.
