En esta colina (Amersfoortse Berg) se estableció un puesto de observación para medir la velocidad del sonido por el científico neerlandés Gerrit Moll. Esto ocurrió en el verano de 1823. Se instaló un cañón, junto con un telescopio y una serie de instrumentos de medición para ver cuáles eran los factores influyentes (higrómetro, termómetro, barómetro y veleta). La medición se realizó finalmente del 27 al 28 de junio de 1823. El resultado fue la determinación más precisa de la velocidad del sonido en el mundo (332 m/seg).
