El pueblo de Langeaar está dominado por la iglesia católica romana St. Adrianus (1902). Langeaar solía estar donde ahora se encuentra Ter Aar, pero fue arrasado en enero de 1788 tras una ruptura de dique en el Braassemermeer. El pueblo fue reconstruido en su lugar actual. Más tarde, en el lugar del antiguo Langeaar, se construyó de nuevo un pueblo que recibió el nombre de Ter Aar.
